Welcome and Introduction: ACWR Secretary Sr Mary Navarre, OP

Keynote Speaker: Margaret Susan Thompson, PhD

Dr. Margaret S. Thompson is an associate professor of history and political science in the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs at Syracuse University, as well as a senior research associate. A scholar of feminist history in the U.S., her most recent research emphasizes the agency and social significance of sisters to American religious and secular history and will appear in the forthcoming book, The Yoke of Grace: American Nuns and Social Change, 1809-1917 (Oxford University Press).

2:30-3:30 pm           Social Hour

Visit with familiar faces and make new connections. Participants can participate in several small-group 20-minute random “tables” over the course of the hour, just as if attending an in-person gathering.  Bring your own snacks!

This presentation will discuss some of the benefits of your membership in ACWR by members of the Technology Committee and Mentoring Program, even in a largely remote world. Presenters will discuss some of the ways that they have effectively used the Facebook page, ACWR listserv, Zoom offerings, and features on the website. Although these are geared towards the members of ACWR, there are aspects of this outreach that you can take back to your own communities and promote your own collections.

1:30-2:30 pm            Session II: Managing Digital Donations

Presenters: Mary Grace Kosta

Congregational Archivist, Sisters of St. Joseph, Canada

Mary Grace’s presentation will focus on donations of born digital materials, from selection and accessioning, to managing, preserving, and sharing.  She will share her congregational digital preservation workflow, as well as her organization’s digital preservation and electronic records policies.

Scott will provide a brief how-to for email archiving, covering the most basic strategies and technical requirements, plus a sample plan and guide to utilize these tools. He will also discuss implementation successes and failures, and communicating its significance to leadership.  Time permitting, the session will open up for discussion.

Sr Grace Marie presents an overview of the planned Felician Sisters Heritage Center for the North American Province, demonstrating how pooled resources and application of best archival practices will ensure preservation and access to the cultural heritage of the Felician Sisters.
